Portugal 'coming into its own'

Property in Portugal continues to be a fantastic investment, claims one magazine.

Country Life believes that Brits would benefit from year-round sunshine in Portugal - something that gives the country an evergreen appeal.

The Algarve was chosen as one area that was very popular with UK visitors, as it provided a number of different attractions. For example, it was said to offer a good selection of restaurants, golf courses and high-quality beaches.

"These areas provide everything British sun-seekers require," the magazine commented. "Portugal is already a highly popular destination among British proprty buyers, including the 38,000 people who had decided to set up home there permanently."

According to the Office for National Statistics, the number of UK citizens opting to move abroad reached record levels last year, with 207,000 people leaving the country.
